Northern Michigan Island Destination Wedding
The idea of a destination wedding sounds romantic and intimate. While many couples like the concept, they may not be able to afford the price tag or they fear that many that they love most would be unable to attend. The alternative is to find a place close to home that offers the same adventure. When Lyndsae and Douglas tied the knot in Michigan their guests had to take a little trip in order to attend the festivities.
They got married at the Drummond Island and Resort which is located 60 miles from the Mackinac Bridge. It is accessible by ferry. It is the largest freshwater island in the United States and boasts more than 2000 acres of woods, water and wildlife. The perfect setting for a destination wedding close to home.
Lyndsae was stunning in her lace gown. She wore her hair in a bun with a flower to the side. Her bouquet had all white blooms. Her bridesmaids all wore long blue gowns which were a variety of shades. Douglas and his groomsmen all wore slate blue suits.
They enjoyed the beauty of the island while they exchanged their vows with a backdrop of the wonderful trees. Even though Mother Nature did not cooperate, the guests braved the elements. The reception took place under a tent which provided some protection.
One of the highlights of a reception, is usually the wedding cake. They had a simple one layer cake that was surrounded by cupcakes. The biggest thing at their affair was a surprise guest. One of the groom's uncle's is an Abraham Lincoln impersonator and he appeared in full attire. Needless to say, everyone wanted picture with Honest Abe.
Lyndsae and Douglas travelled by boat to reach their wedding venue. It was mysterious and romantic. If you want a wedding that is away from everything, look around and see if there is a location like this close by. It will allow you to have a destination wedding without having to travel thousands of miles from home. It will definitely allow you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
